Some of us stay alive so that we can watch the NBA Finals, buy the newest pair of Jordan’s, get our next meal or drink, finish the 40 hour work week to get to the weekend, and some just to get to the next day.
On the other hand, some of us stay alive to see our children grow up and develop, to develop our visions so that they become reality, or to see what the future holds for us 10 years from now.
The two depictions above are goals. Which category do you currently fall into, the one that stumbles along from day to day or the one that takes steps forward to a brighter future?
We all have the ability to have forward thinking. The fact is that some of us have given up on our goals. Have we allowed mediocrity to stifle our vision and purpose? Have we allowed others to impose their opinions on how foolish we are to pursue these aspirations? Or has the thought of complacency stunted are ability to see beyond right now?
Goals are essential to success, as much as air is life. Nobody stumbles upon success without goals and those who are successful set their eyes on where they want to get. “The important thing is not where you were or where you are at, but where you want to get.” Progressive companies make goals 5 to 10 years out, successful couples discuss the future daily, and research is done years before to develop products before you see it appear on shelves or on a possible car dealership.
If progressive business’s, couples and researchers don’t leave their future to chance, why would you? Start planning now, it is not too late.
The image of me 10 years from now, where do I want to be: Write them down next to each number, and ask yourself if you have work to do, goals to set, and things to still accomplish.
Home Life: 1. House?
2. Vacations?
3. Standard of Living?
4. Assisting my children?
Work: 1. Level of Income?
2. Authority at my position?
3. Prestige?
4. Responsibility?
Social: 1. Types of friends?
2. Types of activities I volunteer for?
Now ask yourself, do you have the desire? Desire when harnessed is power. Don’t kill your desires because of your past or present situation. Don’t murder your goals and accept mediocrity because of the mistakes of the previous 10, 20, 30 years.
Goals give you power
Goals give you energy
Goals give you prosperity
Goals keep you on course
Goals give you enthusiasm
Goals give you better health
Goals improve your opportunity for success
Set your goals to get things done and then surrender to them.
Those who achieve success, didn’t do it overnight, or all at once. IF you look at those who made it to the top, they stumbled, they fell, and they took it one a step at a time. The created a foundation, maintaining desire, constructing a spiritual understanding that roadblocks are going to exist and that detours would need to be taken along the way. This is all part of the plan; therefore we must fix firmly in our minds that some roads will be closed along the way, not to slow us down or lessen our desire, but to educate us to self-invest to achieve our goals.
Why not make an investment decision right now?
- Where do you want to go?
- Write down what you want to accomplish house, work, social
- Surrender to those goals
- Remember to take a step at a time
- Roadblocks will get in your way
- Sharpen your mind…”thy will be done”, don’t allow worries to choke the word, trust where you cannot see and never abandon your goals.
